FETHIYE - COLD WATER BAY ROUTE

This flotilla sailing holiday allows time to explore the charming anchorages in the attractive pine-wooded Fethiye Gulf.

Any of the yachts based at Fethiye can join the Fethiye flotilla and explore this beautiful stretch of the Turkish coast in company. The flotilla skipper and hostess accompany the flotilla on the lead yacht and are on hand for help and advice as required. They have the latest weather forecasts and know the best anchorages for lunch stops.

With alternating one week itineraries you can choose between the Fethiye/Cold Water Bay route or the Karacaoren route, both taking in stunning bays with crystal clear waters as well as ancient sites. Those with more time may choose to combine the two routes and enjoy a two week holiday for a truly memorable experience.

The Fethiye Bay is sheltered with north-westerly winds Force 2-3 but on longer passages along the coast winds may be occasionally 5-6. These fade as the sun goes down to give a calm night on anchor in one of the numerous sheltered bays and anchorages.

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC). For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate. You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries, at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence.

Sunday: At 09:00 hrs a chart briefing is held in the Tamarind Restaurant, within the marina. Information will be given on the route for the week and general “dos and don’ts”.

Kapı Creek (15 nm) is a lovely, well-sheltered bay in a fabulous location, with a restaurant that serves delicious food. It is one of the many beautiful bays in the Fethiye Gulf, which can only be reached from the sea. Ancient ruins are about one hour walking away. Pay cash, although sometimes a card machine is available. Toilets and shower ashore.

Monday: Cold Water Bay (17 nm) This is an absolutely stunning location with a friendly, family run restaurant, serving great food. The name is due to a cool spring flowing into the sea. Pay cash.

Tuesday: 22 Fathom Cove (18 nm) for a rustic night with fantastic hosts; a brilliant night although watch out for the slightly rickety jetty! Pay cash.

Wednesday: Free Sailing – Sarsala (2 nm) The Clients will be given a choice of bays where we cannot take large groups like Wall Bay, Tomb Bay, Göcek village or follow the flotilla Leaders to Sarsala.

Thursday: Boynuz Bükü, (6 nm) This Fjord is covered with pine trees on its north and south slopes which makes it a very pretty bay. You can relax and enjoy a meal in the lovely gardens. Showers and toilets are available as well as water on the jetty which is supplied from the local spring. Pay cash, although sometimes a card machine is available.

Friday: Return to Fethiye Ece Marina (18 nm). In the evening enjoy dinner in a nice restaurant in the bazaar.

  • Should clients have booked a two-week flotilla holiday they will be given advice on places to visit during their free days sailing, until the flotilla is reunited at an appointed destination.
  • NB It is best to bring cash with you, as there are no cash machines en-route. You can bring Sterling or Euro’s and then change them into Turkish Lira to get the best rate of exchange.
  • Electric and water available once each week. Showers limited. Phones can be charged in the restaurants.
  • The weather can be very hot so it is a good idea to bring a rehydration formula (eg Berocca) with you, as the pharmacy closest to the marina may not be open.

Flotilla routes can be subject to change at the discretion of the flotilla leaders.
